Our Expertise

The International Dog Academy has a highly experienced and qualified Management Team with comprehensive corporate structures and goals set in place to ensure that all of its ventures run efficiently and effectively. Each milestone of our dog programs is clearly defined with target times to ensure that both dogs and handlers satisfactorily meet goals and objectives on time. The Academy has developed systems aimed specifically for monitoring and directing the progress of dog training courses.

The systems that cover all aspects of our courses include;
• Training procedures
• Theory & practical training
• Progressive validation and examination of dogs and handlers
• Overall measurement of performance
• Field reviews and quality control assessments / validations

The Academy has developed composite course schedules for both dog and handler courses based on improved training systems developed over the past 13 years. The schedules clearly define each process undertaken during any course.

The schedules provide an objective means of measuring course progress and anticipated levels of completion by both dogs and handlers. The schedules are based on generic timetables for general canine scent/hunting applications and modified for specific course requirements.

Course Lengths
The schedule used for dog and handler training is broken down into time based modules to take into account the differing requirements of each course. All handler courses are preceded by the associated protocol/initial training.

Theory and Practical Training
The Academy has developed handler theory courses using PowerPoint presentations and multimedia examples of actual behaviours and techniques. This gives handlers a visual concept of theories discussed during classroom lessons. Initial practical training is carried out in an appropriate environment simulating field training for teams. Environmental practical training then commences to establish both dog and handler suitability in actual working environments. Training is periodically videoed at certain intervals for the purposes of assessment and analysis of course progress and handling/dog techniques.

Progressive Examination and Validation of Dogs and Handlers
The Academy has developed an assessment process together with written & practical examinations to ensure that course participants meet not only the expectations of the clients requirements, but also the high standards that the Academy sets for dogs and handlers engaged in our training programs.
All handler and dog performance is measured and recorded on an ongoing basis. Advice is provided to the handlers on a daily basis, with daily progressive feedback sessions. The acquired knowledge and handling techniques are recorded after each training run. Post training run evaluation of each dog and handler is then conducted, step by step. Each dog and handler participating in a program is continually assessed by the instructor to ensure that their profile fits the operational requirements of our clients and their needs in the real world environment.
